It looks like ASRock wants to jump ahead of the competition and release the first AM3+ motherboard onto the market. AM3+ is AMDs new upcoming platform to support Zambezi Bulldozer CPU’s which are yet to be released.
The 890FX Deluxe5 will be based on the 890FX and SB850 chipsets as the name suggests and will also be of regular ATX size. The CPU socket will be compatible with current PhenomII and AthlonII processors aswell as future Zambezi Bulldozer processors.
Other board features include three PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots aswell as two PCI-E x1 and two PCI legacy slots. Storage will be handled by six SATA 6 Gb/s ports from the southbridge, two SATA unkown ports and an IDE connector from a third party controller. The board will also feature 8-Channel HD audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF connectivity, six USB 3.0 ports, a number of USB 2.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, eSATA and FireWire.
While the prospect of a AM3+ ready motherboard is exciting in it’s own right, we’re not completely sure where ASRock are coming from with this one. AMD’s new 9 series chipset will be out for Bulldozer and it’s also what other AM3+ boards are likely to be based on, making the 8 series chipset old news. Ofcourse if you’re looking for a board that will last you a few upgrades then the 890FX Deluxe5 may be for you, however we wouldn’t advise of throwing away your AM3 motherboard in favour of it just yet, there are plenty more boards using the 9 series chipset on the way.
Currently the only image available to the public is a diagram of the board shown above. Release date is also unknown, however ASRock wouldn’t want to hold onto it for too long if they want their early entrance to be at all effective
