Leaked Intel roadmap pegs Broadwell for 2H 2014

A leaked Intel roadmap has revealed the company's next line of processors, codenamed 'Broadwell', are scheduled for release in the second half of 2014. Broadwell is the 14 nm shrink of the current 'Haswell' fourth-generation Core processors, however according to this roadmap Intel will be focusing on mobile parts at the expense of desktop.

For Xperia brand loyal people, there’s amazing news. Sony has announced that it is going to enhance the Xperia Smartphone portfolio and now the additions would be in the form of Xperia GX and Xperia SX. These devices are first going to be launched in Japan and rumors indicate that some time after that, there will be a global launch. But the dates are not still out in regards to this.

As per one of the video leaks on Youtube, it was anticipated that the leaked specifications and features belong to Xperia GX and thus it should be out for launch soon. The expected features and specifications as per the video leak suggest the following:

As per the expectations and anticipation, we can say that Sony has three media apps for Xperia GX. These include album, movies application and walkman. If this launches soon internationally then it will surely create havoc and turn out to be Xperia flagship phone. It is expected to be a phone with Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0. However, the details about Xperia SX Smart phone are not much available.

The story of Xperia GX turns out to be more interesting because speculations and rumors keep on reminding that Xperia GX may be Sony’s upcoming Hayabusa LT29i. The reason why this belief has started erupting in the minds of people is, Sony Xperia GX specs are much like LT29i Hayabusa. Even Hayabusa is speculated to carry features and specs like 4.6 inch display, dual Core Processor of 1.5GHz, 13 MP camera etc. May be, Hayabusa is the international version of Xperia GX.

As per the leaked pictures and videos it really gives an impression that looks and design of Xperia GX and LT29i Hayabusa is quite similar. But the phone as concerned does not have Docomo branding. Thus, again, we leave some area for imagination and rumors.

The later part of the current year is going to reveal the whole plot and will bring up the true story. So, you just have to wait and watch as to whether the Japanese Xperia GX opens up way for Hayabusa LT29i international version. If yes, then when? Fully assembled iPhone 5 prototype shown off, could this be it?

Apple is hard at work on their next generation iPhone along with iOS 6.0, that's what we know for sure. The rest of the things we hear are mostly speculation that's been piling up for over a year when the company launched the iPhone 4S. Among the most well-founded rumors is the notion that the iPhone 5 will come with a larger screen, it will surely be 4G-ready, and it will possibly transition to a smaller connector to replace the dock connector that's been in use since the iPod days.

Over the weekend, Japanese repair shop iLab put together a purported iPhone 5 handset, fully assembling it from individual parts that have become available in manufacturing channels. If the parts are indeed official from Apple, this could be the closest we get to see iPhone 5 hardware ahead of its launch.a

At first glance this looks extremely similar to the iPhone 4 and 4S models, albeit with a taller frame, the smaller dock connector and headphone jack at the bottom, front-facing camera sitting on the top middle, and possibly a slightly slimmer body.

While interesting that we may be confirming long-time rumors, Apple could just as well be playing the game of running several different prototypes somewhat in the open, in order to deceive and avoid larger leaks. However if the iPhone 5 resembles what we are seeing in the pictures above, it will be mostly an evolutionary step for the smartphone, that we're sure will sell like hotcakes regardless.

The current iPhone 4S kept the same physical appearance of its predecessor, however it brought with it new software features and hardware refinements. This strategy has panned out well for Apple, having sold dozens of millions of phones in a year time. The iPhone 5 is coming this year, no doubt about it, but with no launch date set, it could be anything from early August to late October until it gets here.

Atrix HD accidentally posted early on Motorola's website

A blunder by Motorola has revealed detailed information and product photos of the upcoming Atrix HD smartphone. Astute observers noticed the phone on Motorola’s website, although the product page has since been pulled from the site. Of course, the specifications and pics were all copied before anyone at Motorola noticed the error.





According to the product page, the Atrix HD packs a 4.5-inch HD display with ColorBoost and onscreen navigation keys, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of system memory, 8GB of internal storage with up to 32GB via expandable storage using a microSD card and an 8MP rear camera with 1.3MP front cam. The rear camera is capable of recording 1080p video at 30 frames per second.

The phone will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1780mAh battery and is said to measure 8.4mm thick. A 4G LTE radio will ensure a high-speed data connection. The rear casing is constructed of DuPont Kevlar fiber to increase rigidity and strength while the 4.5-inch screen is coated with Corning Gorilla Glass.

The original Atrix 4G was introduced at the 2011 CES and made available in the first quarter. The handset featured a dual-core Tegra 2 processor but it was most famous for its docking ability. The Atrix could essentially be turned into a computer of sorts using what most considered an overpriced notebook-sized expansion dock.

Consumers can expect to see the Atrix HD launch on AT&T in the US and possibly other carriers, although pricing and a release date were not mentioned.

Windows 8 Milestone 2 build 7955 leaked

A Milestone 2 version of Windows 8 leaked publicly on Monday.

The build is currently being distributed on FTPs and file sharing sites after an anonymous leakster posted the bits to the beta archive site. The build is an early sample of Microsoft’s work with Windows 8 and does not reflect the current state of winmain builds.

The build is currently available on private FTP sites and is expected to be made available on the usual torrent and file sharing sites in the next few hours.

You can unlock the following in 7955:
- Ribbon UI
- Application Folder (now working, in 7850 it was broken)
- Full DWM (hideblur)

The following requires the ”red pill”:
- Webcam
- Login (that ugly guy with ctrl+alt+del, the fishy wallpaper, pattern login)

- Immersive Browser

Microsoft is currently working on various Windows 8 features and is expected to deliver an early copy to developers at its Windows Developer Conference (WDC) in September. Here’s a round-up of the latest Windows 8 news:

HP EliteBook 2560p, 2760p laptop specs leaked

HP Fansite has unearthed the specifications of two upcoming HP EliteBooks: the 2560p ultraportable and 2760p convertible tablet. The former is the successor to last year's EliteBook 2540p and delivers Intel's full-voltage Sandy Bridge Core i5 and Core i7 processors with an integrated HD 3000 graphics core, up to 16GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM, as much as 750GB mechanical or 160GB flash storage, and a 12.5-inch matte display with a 1366x768 resolution (to the dismay of folks who prefer 16:10).


The machine has a built-in DVD drive and it's unknown if this can be repurposed for secondary storage. Connectivity includes three USB 2.0 ports (one eSATA combo), DisplayPort and VGA outputs, RJ11/RJ45 jacks, audio jacks, as well as SD/SDHC card and ExpressCard 34 slots. There's also an HD webcam, spill-resistant chiclet keyboard, larger touchpad, improved speakers, and an overall slimmer profile. The 2560p has a slightly heavier starting weight than its predecessor at 3.68lbs versus 3.38lbs.

Meanwhile, the EliteBook 2760p convertible tablet offers the same processor, memory and graphics options as the 2560p, but is limited to a 250GB/320GB hard drive or a 128GB/160GB solid-state drive. It drops the 16:9 panel for three 12.1-inch 1280x800 options: one that supports pen input, another that registers both stylus and multitouch finger input, as well as a brighter outdoor display that reads both stylus and finger touches. Naturally, all are mounted on a hinge that rotates 360 degrees.


The 2760p doesn't have an internal optical drive, but there is an optional secondary six-cell "slate" battery. Interestingly, the 2760p also foregoes USB 3.0 for two USB 2.0 ports, and most of the other I/O matches the above 2560p, except it loses the eSATA combo and gains FireWire. Size-wise, the system is 0.02 inches thicker and 0.2lbs heavier than 2010's EliteBook 2740p, which started at 3.8lbs. Neither spec sheet hints at a price or potential release date, but we expect them to launch sometime soon.

Leaked Intel slides reveal Sandy Bridge-E, Ivy Bridge details

A new Intel roadmap has recently appeared online, bringing new details on the upcoming enthusiast oriented Sandy Bridge-E along with Ivy Bridge based processors which Intel plans to release during the first half of 2012.

According to the roadmap, the high end Sandy Bridge-E will be launched in Q4 2011 and besides targeting the super expensive $999+ segment, apparently it will also include models in premium performance P1 and P2 ranges, which are currently headed by Core i7 970 and 2600 models. Coinciding with a previous leak detailing the X79 platform, the slides mention full support for two PCI-Express x16 graphics cards, the new quad-channel DDR3 interface, larger cache sizes and flexible storage options -- the X79 chipset will purportedly include a 10-port SATA 6Gbps controller.

The roadmap also describes Intel's 22nm die shrink of Sandy Bridge, codenamed Ivy Bridge. Planned for the first half of 2012, the chips will be seamlessly compatible with existing LGA1155 platforms and "Cougar Point" P67, H67, H61, Z68, chipsets, although boards based on a newer 7-Series "Panther Point" chipset will also be available, with a newer FDI interface supporting up to three displays running simultaneously and an integrated USB 3.0 controller.

Intel's 22nm Ivy Bridge chips will feature a new dual-channel DDR3 memory controller with official support for DRAM speeds of up to DDR3-1600 MHz, the usual PCI-Express 2.0 x16 hub, Turbo 2.0 support, a new graphics core with DirectX 11 support, and TDP ratings ranging between 35W and 95W.

Naturally there's no mention of pricing since these chips are still one year away from their launch. That said, we know they are intended as successors to Sandy Bridge Core i5 and i7 chips in the mainstream and performance markets, which currently range from around $185 up to $320 at online retailers.

More Pictures Of Windows 8 Features Leaked To The Internet

Barely a day after the first series of Windows 8 installation screenshots from WinReview,cnBeta (translated page) has now posted over 10 pictures of the upcoming Windows client OS. These newly leaked screenshots reveal a new feature named History Vault.

History Vault helps protect your files against accidents that could cause data loss. If an external drive or network attached storage is used to backup, History Vault can even protect your files against disk or entire PC failure.

The leaked screenshots also reveal some more information about the new System Reset feature. It seems, the user can now set a video file as user picture (picture that appears in Start menu, logon screen and taskbar) as well.

Android 2.3 ROM for European Samsung Galaxy S leaked

An official and final (read: not beta) Android 2.3.3 ROM has leaked for the standard I9000 iteration of the Samsung Galaxy S. Unfortunately, this means it will only work on the European version of the phone and those in the US still have to play the waiting game. This is the same build that you would receive if you send your handset to a Samsung Service Center for repair, according to XDA Developers.

The leak is one thing, but the fact that Samsung is starting to update handsets when they arrive at its repair centers is good news. This would suggest that Samsung Galaxy S owners won't have to wait much longer to get an official Android 2.3 (codenamed Gingerbread) build from their carrier.

Some users are still waiting for Android 2.2 (codenamed Froyo). We would recommend skipping it and going straight to Gingerbread, if you get the chance of course.

Intel X79 enthusiast chipset details leaked, scheduled for Q4

Chinese site it.com.cn has managed to get their hands on an alleged Intel slide outlining the company's next platform for enthusiasts. According to the roadmap, the successor to the popular X58 platform carries the X79 moniker and will arrive in the final quarter of 2011 -- three years after the former's debut. The upcoming platform will seat four-core and six-core Sandy Bridge-E processors and bring several improvements in connectivity as well as memory bandwidth.

The platform will feature the LGA 2011 socket (yes, another one) and see the PCI-E hub moved from the northbridge to the processor die -- much like with the P67. The X79 chipset (or platform controller hub) also gets a DMI connection to the processor but supplements this with an additional PCI-Express 2.0 x4 link to the processor's PCI-E hub, for a total bandwidth of 8GB/s to support the integrated 10-port SATA 6Gbps controller plus four 3Gbps ports.

By comparison, current high-end 6-series chipsets only get two-port 6Gbps SATA beside four 3Gbps ports. Eight of the SATA 6Gbps ports can be set up as SAS (serial-attached SCSI), and RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 are also supported. There's no talk of an integrated USB 3.0 controller or Thunderbolt for that matter, but the PCH still features 14 USB 2.0 ports.

Boards based on the X79 will allow for two PCI-Express x16 @ x16 or four PCIe x16 @ x8 slots and are set to have at least four DDR3 slots since Sandy Bridge E CPUs work with quad-channel memory. Other features include an integrated Lewisville gigabit Ethernet PHY chip and audio codec with support for dual stream HDMI and DP audio. Lastly, the slides mention overclocking capabilities for the processor and memory, which is expected for this enthusiast platform.

Leaked: Windows 8 "system reset" screenshot

A screenshot showing off a "Restore to original factory settings" feature in Windows 8 has leaked. The feature wasrumored earlier this month and was described as allowing the user to reset the system to factory settings in just two minutes.

The leaked screenshot, courtesy of Win7China, plainly shows such an option below the already-available System Restore feature in Windows. If you can't see the screenshot, there's a "Open system reset" button to the right of the following description:

Remove all programs you've installed and restore default Windows settings. You can choose to keep your user accounts and personal files.

We seriously doubt the reset process will take two minutes on your typical hardware configuration. It should take significantly longer to remove all installed software and return Windows to its default settings.

Such a feature could be very useful for those times that you want to reinstall the operating system for your friend or family member. Even if it doesn't take just two minutes, it will certainly be faster than reinstalling the whole operating system.

It's not clear whether the feature will require the original Windows 8 disc, and given how early we are in the development cycle, if it will even be included. That being said, if it does what it claims to, we hope Microsoft won't scrap it.

AMD's 28nm mobile graphics roadmap leaked Radeon HD 7000M

DonanimHaber has published a presentation slide that outlines AMD's mobile GPU roadmap for the next year. The company launched its 40nm Radeon HD 6000M chips (codenamed Seymour, Whistler and Blackcomb) last November, and that lineup will remain in play until later this year and early next year as AMD ramps up production and distribution of its next-gen mobile graphics.

The Radeon HD 7000M will be manufactured on a 28nm process and features four GPUs: Thames, Chelsea, Heathrow and Wimbledon (least to most powerful). Slated for release in November 2011, Thames will have a slightly higher TDP of 15-25W than Seymour (6400M) and it pack twice the performance, which is partially thanks to a 128-bit memory interface (up from 64-bit).

AMD appears to be blurring the lines between its mainstream and performance segments. Chelsea will operate in the 20-30W range and also features a 128-bit bus. Nonetheless, it should bring a 30% speed increase over existing Whistler products (6600M/6700M). It's also due in the last quarter of this year, presumably alongside if not soon after the arrival of Thames-based chips.

AMD is preparing two enthusiast GPUs representing different thermal levels. Heathrow will have a TDP above 35W and will be offered in 128-bit/192-bit variants with 1.5GB/3GB of VRAM. Meanwhile, Wimbledon will represent the series flagship, featuring a 256-bit interface and a 65W TDP. Heathrow should land this year while Wimbledon is coming in the second quarter of 2012.

In other company news, AMD has announced an initiative dubbed "Project Mjölnir" that focuses on "increasing performance and providing improved stability of the AMD Catalyst software."
