Need for Speed – The Run: Storyline

Word has it than in Need for Speed – The Run, the story is just there to get things started. It is not really that deep, just gives the racing a background. So let’s take a closer look at the story. In the game, you get to play Jack. You are a man who has gotten in trouble with the mob and can only get a way by taking part in a cross-country race that can land you the $25 million prize money. The money will not only pay off the mob off your trail but may also give you a life of luxury and lots of hot cars.

Early Need for Speed titles have also attempted in making use of a storyline that should guide the player while playing the game. Carbon, Most Wanted and The Underground have also employed engaging storylines.
So we want to know just how true is it that the “The Run” story is thin. Steve Anthony, who is Need for Speed’s Senior Producer, said that the storyline merely provides a context. Need for Speed – The Run is not going to go heavy on the cinematic sequences and will not rely too much on the story. The game will keep bringing you back to the race itself.
I guess this just makes sense because usually racing games do not really go well with a heavy story. Just providing the context should be enough for the new Need for Speed title. At least you can have a stronger reason for winning without being distracted from the actual racing.
