Asus Silent Square EVO CPU Cooler Review

Long before Taiwanese motherboard makers were able to establish their leading positions in the computer industry, new Intel processors were given to companies like IBM first and the Taiwanese companies were left waiting months for their engineering samples. When Intel released the 486 prototype, Asus decided to design a motherboard without having an engineering sample on hand. They used only the technical specs that Intel published and the experience they had designing 386 motherboards. After Asus produced their 486 model, they took it to Intel for testing and were not formally greeted when they arrived. At that time, Intel's own prototype had design flaws and their in-house engineers were working to fix it. Asus designers were able to fix the problem with Intel's motherboard. And as for the Asus motherboard they brought for testing? It worked like a charm. This was the start of a long-standing relationship between the two companies and Asus currently receives Intel engineering samples before any other motherboard maker.

Fast forward to today and Asus now produces graphics cards, optical drives, PDA's, laptops, servers, networking products, phones, cases, and cooling solutions (oh my!). We were able to take a look at one of their CPU coolers recently and put it through the torture chamber otherwise known as HardwareLogic's review lab. After hours of grueling testing and dissecting, the Silent Square Evo made it out alive but how did it fare? Read on and find out if this cooler is what you're looking for.
